Ocean Prime Restaurant at Sand Lake Road
As we were out in September we were able to take the opportunity to eat at some of the restaurants which featured in the Magical Dining Experience.
The first one we picked was Ocean Prime in The Rialto on Sand Lake Road which is part of “Restaurant Row” where some of Orlando’s finest restaurants are to be found. There is complimentary valet parking or you can park yourself slightly further away from the entrance and have a few minutes walk, whichever you prefer.
The name conveys the restaurants specialities; seafood (Ocean) and steaks (Prime) and is an upscale dining experience which is reflected in the prices and also offers handcrafted cocktails and world-class wines. It has retro elements of a supper club, with warm finishes and rich woods, all combined with state-of-the-art lighting and granite bar tops. Ocean Prime also features an outdoor patio terrace, cocktail lounge and piano bar.
There is a very impressive menu but during the month of September you can eat from the Magical Dining Prixe Fixe at $30 per head.
For the starter you could choose from a selection of Hearts of Romaine Knife & Fork Salad or Fried Crispy Crab Cake with Corn Cream. The main course (entrée) was Fillet Steak or Pecan crusted Mountain Trout with Skillet Beans and Brown Butter Sauce. The choice of desserts were Crème Brulee, Seasonal Sorbet or Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. All items are on the Ocean Prime main menu which are both reassuring and an indication of the quality of the meal on offer.
For some reason we both chose the same dishes! The crab cakes came in a subtle delicious corn sauce, the fillet steak was cooked perfectly – medium rare for me and rare for my husband, and was extremely tasty. The sides were extra and we shared creamed spinach, mushrooms and salt and vinegar chips (fries). We actually prefer spinach done the Italian way, just steamed rather than with the addition of a creamy cheese, so we wouldn’t bother with this next time, but the mushrooms and fries melted in the mouth. We both had the crème brulee which was as good as any I have had in France! Also included is unlimited fresh iced water and bread and butter – the bread coming to the table warm.
Normal prices for the dinner menu would be $9 – mid teens for the Appetiser, Mid 20s – high 40s for Entrée, with sides $7 - $ 10 and desserts – called Indulgences - $7-$9.
Service was excellent, professional and yet friendly, with all servers chipping in to take away finished plates etc.
(Ocean Prime, at 7339 W. Sand Lake Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 4-10 p. m. , Friday and Saturday from 4-11 p. m. , and Sunday from 4-9 p. m. For reservations call 407-781-4880)
