Florida Eco Safaris
Come on now, how many of you would like to ride western style just like a cowboy for the day? Well at Florida Eco Safaris you can. You can do everything from an hours ride to a full city slickers weekend. Whether you’re an experienced rider or not, there will be a ride to suit every ones abilities.
Did you know that Floridian cowboys, or, Crackers, as they are known, were the original cowboys, they were around at least fifty years before the western cowboys.
I myself have only done a three-hour ride across beautiful, untouched Real Florida landscape. We had such a fabulous time. I rode with our guide, my nine-year-old daughter and my Mum who is not an experienced rider. The guide was eager to point out all different species of wildlife, which included alligators, white tailed deer, armadillos and lots of birds including the American Bald Eagle.
The day started with an hour and a half drive into Hollow Paw for a day not to be missed. We arrived at around 11.00am and were greeted by very welcoming staff at the fantastic welcome centre.
We were taken to meet our horses and our guide for the ride. Once we were all settled on our horses we set off untouched Florida landscape, it was so enjoyable if there was a complaint to have it was that we would have loved a little canter. A little warning, use the restroom before your ride as we were shown the only bathroom……….bushes.
After the ride was over we were taken back to the visitor centre for a lovely home cooked meal. Lunch is included in the price. The guides told us all about the conservation work that goes on at Forever Florida.
For those who don't ride you can choose to go on a covered wagon tour, children’s pony rides, bike trails and nature walks. For children there is a free petting zoo so they can get up close to the animals.
Then we hit the gift shop that sold many unusual gifts to take home with our memories.
Florida Eco Safaris is located around 80 minutes drive away from Orlando east on 192 heading through St Cloud and onto Hollow Paw. We considered it to be well worth the journey.
We will be going back in August this year and plan to do a full day round up. This includes a long hack and ends with a cattle round up…watch this space for the next report.
