Epcot – World Showcase – Canada
For priority seating in Le Cellier call 407 939 3463
There are 11 countries in the World Showcase, Canada is the 11th and last, if you are going clockwise around the lagoon.
The Canadian pavilion represents a diverse range of cultures, Native Indian villages complete with totem poles, a French chateau, and even a Scottish influence. There are beautiful gardens, a miniature version of the Rocky Mountains and a 30 foot waterfall. The Victoria Gardens were inspired by the famous Butchart Gardens near Victoria in British Columbia. You can also see Maple Trees in honour of the country’s national symbol. The Rocky Mountains were created using Forced Perspective, to make them look taller and larger than they really are, the Disney horticulturists position large plants at the bottom of the mountains and tiny ones at the top, a very clever visual effect.
The shops in Canada include the Trading Post and Northwest Mercantile, with goods such as maple syrup and lumberjack shirts. La Boutique Des Provinces, which sells jewellery, ceramics and gift items with a distinctly French Canadian influence.
“O Canada” is a 17 minute film shown on a 360 degree screen – you stand for the entire show and it can make you feel dizzy. The film depicts many Canadian landmarks including Vancouver Harbour, British Columbia, Gulf Island as well as Fife and Drums in Ontario, a toboggan run in Quebec city and the Changing of the Guard at Parliament to name just a few.
There is a fantastic live band that performs here called Off Kilter and they are the ultimate showmen. Band members will happily pose for photos after their performance.
For a quick snack why not try Trapper Bob’s Beavertails. What's a Beavertail? Well it’s a flat cooked whole-wheat pastry shaped like the tail of Canada's favourite animal, it is served with a variety of toppings including Chocolate Hazelnut and Sugar, Maple and Chocolate, Strawberries and Whipped Cream, Apples and Cinnamon or Cinnamon and Sugar.
