Boggy Creek Airboat Rides - A Wild Ride
Do you need a rest from Disney if only for a couple of hours? If the answer is yes and you have a couple of hours to spare then head off to the Boggy Creek Airboats Rides.
Located at the bottom of Poinciana Boulevard this is a great way to see natural Florida in all it’s glory.
The drive from Highway 192 is around 15 – 20 minutes; it’s also on a straight run so you will have no chance of getting lost along the way.
We went at the end of July and just took our tickets along with us; there was no need to book the ride in advance. When arriving at the office we showed our tickets and were allocated a ride in 15 minutes.
After sitting cooling off by the lake our airboat arrived, we took our ear guards, boarded and took our seats.
As the driver knew the lake like the back of his hand he knew exactly where to take us, first we rode through reeds and we taken to see a female alligator on a bank watching over her eggs, this really was as close as we were going to get and it was truly amazing.
After a short ride meeting the maximum speed we saw a 10 foot alligator swimming along side us. The driver of the boat was looking out for this particular as he said it was the biggest on the lake.
Although the sun was beating down we found the ride so refreshing, the wind blowing in your face cooled you down instantly.
The ride lasted around half an hour and after tipping the driver we headed up to see the baby gators at of course the gator nursery! You can get your pictures taken whilst holding one for $6; the gators mouth is taped so no need to worry about getting bitten.
In hindsight and had we have thought about it before hand we would have packed a picnic and there is a large shaded picnic area with tables and benches.
The gift shop is small but has a few surprises in there……. beware the envelopes with the rattle snake eggs ; -) The shop sells the usual gift shop items such as t-shirts, hats and a few more unusual gifts
The shop also sells a few snacks so don’t go thinking you can have a meal here, in fact that was the only thing we felt it lacked but we’ll remember on our next visit and go prepared with our picnic.
