Adventure Island.........worth the drive?
Adventure Island is located right opposite Busch Gardens and is a water park. This attraction opened over 30 years ago and its' theming is influenced by the Key West style.
Adventure Island sits on 30 acres and currently has 10 rides and 5 attractions.
RIPTIDE is a 4 person race down a 55 foot drop.
WAHOO RUN is a family raft that holds 5 riders and plunges at a speed of 15 feet a second round a twisting and turning course.
ARUBA TUBA is a twisting slide.
WATER MOCASIN is a triple tube spiralling ride.
RUNAWAY RAPIDS has a choice of 5 flumes.
KEY WEST RAPIDS has a 700 feet drop that takes you through a multi sensory experiences.
EVERGLADES is a 72 foot toboggan ride.
GULF SCREAM takes you at 25 miles per hour down a 210 foot body slide.
Here are the attractions
RAMBLING RIVER is more my sort of thing: this is a lazy river that gives you a break from the thrills and spills.
FABIANS FUN PLACE is an area packed with water play for the little ones.
SPLASH ATTACK is water play for older people and is stuffed with water toys.
VOLLEY BALL COURTS are set in the sand and of professional standards.
WAVE POOL has 17000 feet to splash around in with engulfing waves to jump every few minutes.
Now after all that activity you will be hungry and there are 2 cafes serving mostly fast food and also a few snack and drink venues.
You can buy an all day dining plan for $26. 99 (children $15. 99) and this includes drinks. If you just want to use the snack stands this costs $16. 99. Personally I would not want to eat enougn to justify this but I know it is popular and certainly if you have teenagers they would make good use of it.
There are cabanas to rent here and if you plan to stay all day that could be a good idea.
This park opens from mid march to the end of august and then on selected dates to the end of october.
So is it worth the longish drive? well, it does not even start to compare to the Disney water parks or Aquatica; however, if you have done those parks to death then it makes a change.
Also if you are staying in a villa on the Gulf Coast then Adventure Island will be more accesible for you.
Some of my guests grab a motel overnight if they are going to Busch and you may then thinking of getting a combo ticket for both parks. This makes a reasonable overnight side trip.
