The Electric Parade at Magic Kingdom
The Electric Parade takes place at The Magic Kingdom, Disney World at various times during the year depending on the light levels and during some times of year, normally the less busy months, only on certain nights.
The parade starts at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom by the Main Street Station and makes its way up Main Street and all the way up through the main areas of the park and finishing in Frontier Land just by Splash Mountain.
All the areas they pass through a roped off but you can stand at the side of the roads and watch them all pass by. If you want a spot any where near the front of the parade (and this goes for the afternoon parade as well) you will need to claim one and sit or stand there for quite a while before it starts. However you should be able to see most of it from anywhere on the route.
This spectacle is an amazing sight to behold. All the characters that you know and love form a long parade and dance or walk to music and are all lit with millions of lights. There are floats featuring some of Disney’s epic adventure films and their more famous cartoons such as Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Snow white, Ariel The Little Mermaid and many, many more.
Trumpeters herald the start of the parade and are followed by “swimming” fish from the story of Ariel, the little mermaid and brilliantly lit dragon flies dance while clowns sitting on top of balls of light swirl past and wave to the children.
Chip and Dale, the chipmunks are on a float and are playing an enormous piano, while Captain Hook and Smee grin at all the children in a vain attempt to frighten them. Cinderella and her Prince Charming are in their glass coach and they are followed by the fairy godmother and her magic helpers.
There are giant peacocks all lit up gliding slowly along while behind them come floats with Donald Duck, Goofy Pluto and Minnie Mouse all dancing on brightly lit colourful floats.
There are several floats depicting Fantasia, Disney’s experimental film with dancing hippos and snakes on them and a giant red devil with his wings waving slowly around has a float all of his own.
The finale is Mickey Mouse (naturally) all dressed in gold with an enormous long cloak, standing and waving on a golden float – absolutely magical and something the children will never forget.
