Longhorn Steakhouse (6)
I had been hearing great things about The Longhorn Steakhouse, and as it is so near to us decided to give it a try ourselves.
This restaurant opened a few months back at the new Rolling Oaks Commons on west US192. This new area so far has a new Super Target and also an Olive Garden Restaurant, with more expected to open in the future.
We originally were going to try the Longhorn earlier in the week, but when we arrived at about 8pm the wait time was 80 minutes (it is peak time in August) – too long to wait with tired and hungry children, so we decided to go back last night at an earlier time.
We arrived at 7. 15 and were informed the wait time was 30-40 minutes, which was fine, so with our ‘alerter’ in hand we moved outside to wait for a table to be ready.
The time estimate was pretty accurate and we were finally seated in a booth, ordered some drinks, while our server explained the menu and made some recommendations.
There were a good range of starters to choose from including battered onions, shrimps, Buffalo wings, chowder, soup and chilli. As tempting as all the dishes were we decided to go straight for our main course, as we didn’t want to be too full and spoil it.
There was a huge choice on the menu – the chicken choices include rocky top chicken (chicken with BBQ sauce, cheese and tomatoes), chicken tenders, and parmesan chicken, various seafood dishes including salmon, lobster and shrimp, ribs with barbeque or onion sauces, chops and various salads. Longhorn is primarily a steakhouse, and the choice was huge including sirloin, rib eye, New York strip, t-bone, filet, and porterhouse, with various toppings and sauces or just grilled to order.
Our server informed us that each main comes with 2 sides or 1 side and a salad. There is a good children’s menu including steak, chicken tenders, macaroni, etc. but my youngest decided to share my dinner as usual. I decided to go for a rack of ribs, with Caesar salad and mash, my sister chose filet steak, with Caesar salad and baked potato and my daughter predictably chose the cheeseburger.
After a considerable wait our food arrived, and looked gorgeous. As they new my youngest was sharing with me they had an extra portion of mash made for him and had cut the ribs in half – very thoughtful! The ribs were succulent and probably some of the best I have had in Florida, and the mash was perfect! My sister’s steak was so tender and delicious, and my daughter quite enjoyed her cheeseburger, although she would probably have been better choosing a steak, chicken or ribs, as these are what Longhorn is about.
The bill for 3 meals and drinks came to approximately $70 – very reasonable for the quality of the food. We would definitely return, but make sure we are really hungry first.
