Jungle Cruise - Magic Kingdom
The Jungle Cruise in Adventure Land, Magic Kingdom is a ride taken from the original in Disney Land in 1955. You will board a 1930’s style safari boat and be taken on a very unusual cruise on untamed rivers, through several continents in a matter of minutes – remarkable! You will travel through Africa, Asia and South America. Your guide on the cruise will be an explorer who will explain everything you will see on the cruise. He will tell you that you are all now explorers and you are looking for an earlier boat which has radiod in that he is in trouble and needs help. It will be your job to go and find him and help bring him back to the base camp.
On the way you will see elephants in Africa playing happily in a pool, hippos bathing in the water and in the background a downed aeroplane which supposedly crashed in the jungle. Beware, some of these animals will surface from the water right beside your boat and the elephants will squirt water at the boat. There will be lions and tigers and even hyenas hiding in the undergrowth which you will have pointed out to you.
You will see savages wielding their trophies of shrunken heads, as the ride appears to take you into some considerable danger, especially from the ivory hunters who are hiding in the jungle. Sometimes to get you out of danger, the guide will have to use his gun to shoot you out of trouble. Of course you will eventually find the boat and help it back to base amid great cheers from you all. It is very exciting, especially if you have a vivid imagination. After all, that is what Disney World is all about – imagination.
This is a very interactive ride where the guide will encourage you to join in the fun. This ride which is suitable for all ages is usually enjoyed by the young ones most, who take it all in, wide-eyed.
And now for the technical information for all you techies.
On the original ride in Disney Land back in 1955, they used real guns loaded with blanks. These days they are guns that trigger audio of a gun shot. The water is dyed brown and the depth ranges between three and eight feet. The downed plane near the hippo pool is the back half of the same plane that is featured in Casablanca scene during The Great Movie Ride at the Hollywood Studios. For all you geeks, that is s Lockheed L-12 Electra Junior. Now aren’t you glad you know that!
