Walt Disney World - Hollywood Studios
The Movies come alive in Hollywood Studios and there’s something for all age groups. Entering the park along Hollywood Boulevard it’s easy to feel the atmosphere of the golden age of cinema.
Start with some classic entertainment with The Great Movie Ride and even Disney buffs will learn something in the presentation of Disney – One Mans Dream. It its more recent thrills you’re after, don’t miss the Indiana Jones stunt show or the Star Wars thrill ride!
If excitement is what you crave, head for Sunset Boulevard next. The Hollywood Tower of Terror dominates the Los Angeles skyline. The pre-ride build up is very scary ensuring you’re at fever pitch by the time its your turn. This ride has recently improved (?!!) to include more drops & you never know how many there will be each time. There’s a height restriction of 40” and Fast Passes are available so little ones & the less adventurous could enjoy the Beauty & the Beast show, which is right next door.
Also next door is Rock & Roller Coaster. Another ride for the brave! This time the height restriction is 48” and it’s awesome! 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, twisting & turning upside down in the dark to the tune of Aerosmiths‘ pounding rock music!
If its time to calm down now take a trip to Animation Courtyard for a tour through a real animation studio or visit the Voyage of The Little Mermaid or Playhouse Disney.
Mickey Avenue is a real working studio and the Backlot tour takes you around some of the famous tv houses used in the films, you can see some of the original vehicles and film backdrops & props. Then it’s onto Catastrophe Canyon where you can become involved in some amazing special effects! Also see an exhibition of some of your favourite villains in ‘Movie Characters you Love to Hate’.
Lastly there’s New York Street, home to the Toy Story characters, the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play ground and, our favourite, Muppet Vision 3-D with its zany characters & special effects.
Most afternoons there is the “Stars & their Cars” parade featuring all the favourite characters in specially adapted vehicles. As usual, if you want a good view you will need to get there in plenty of time. This is also the situation with the Fantasmic Firework show, which is a real treat! Based on Fantasia, sorcerer Mickey battles against wicked villains to the accompaniment of lasers, fire, dancing fountains and fabulous fireworks all set to Disney’s best music. The show gets full up to an hour before it starts but it is possible to book a dinner package which guarantees you seats – enquire as soon as you get to the park at guest services. Also be aware that if the weather is bad this show will not go ahead.
If you’ve any energy left at the end of your day, there are some really good shops to pick up that special souvenir. All in all, Hollywood Studios is a great day out!
