Wheelchair User's guide to Universal Studios
I am not the world’s most adventurous thrill seeker so this by all means is not a comprehensive list. I hope another wheelchair user more adventurous than I am will add to this.
First of all – if arriving by car – do bring your disabled blue badge with you. The authorities do recognise our UK one in Florida.
The disabled parking is still a long way from both parks. There are three travelators (which wheelchairs are not allowed on) and then a good walk/push to get to the entrance of the park.
I think this park has a bit more to offer the wheelchair user than it’s sister park Islands of Adventure. This may be that there are not so many white knuckle rides here-as the general rule of thumb seems to if it gores very fast and spins upside down then you need to transfer from your chair-which may prove just too difficult for some users-or it may provide a good excuse for a lily livered coward like me! ! !
Shows- Shrek 4D- Won’t give too much away but it follows the film. It’s great fun-stay in your chair and enjoy. There’s a photo opportunity outside with Shrek and Donkey which is not to be missed.
Terminator. May be a bit scary for little ones-but again you can stay in your chair and enjoy the show.
Animal Actors. Again just sit back in your chair and enjoy the show.
Rides Men in Black My favourite ride. There is a lift down to a special car. You can stay in your chair. Ride does spin a bit so need to be able to hang on. Have great fun shooting aliens. Can be very busy.
E. T. I was wrong-this is my favourite ride. Again won’t give too much away-but I just love the ‘walk’ through the forest, so atmospheric-then you get into a special car. It does give the appearance of going high as you look down on planet earth-but it’s not to be missed.
Jaws- Again you can stay in your chair it has a special space on the boat. You do go into an enclosed space-but not for too long. Not to be missed.
Twister A bit show and a bit of a simulator. Good laugh and you get to stay in your chair. You are not fastened into anything and it’s continous throughout the day.
Earthquake Very exciting. Can stay in chair. Do get shaken up a bit. Good fun.
There’s lots of little shows going on around the park and lots of characters to see.
Take swimsuits for the new watersplash area –it’s great fun.
There’s plenty of disabled toilets and good access around the park.
