What to expect of your Orlando holiday.
For first time travellers to Orlando who want to visit Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and all the other attractions, it may be a completely unknown experience.
For instance, I am often asked by guests wishing to book my villa, “Do I need a car”. The answer to that is a resounding yes, you do. If you are staying at an hotel you may have transport laid on to the parks, although this is very restricting due to you having to catch transport at times set by them which takes away a lot of the spontaneity. You will not be able to leave a park for a break and go back again very easily and you may need to use public transport for the further away parks. And, you will need transport from the airport to the villa, very expensive in a cab.
Also they sometimes ask, “Can I get public transport to Disney World”. Well you could to the entrance but then you would be stuck, Disney World is not set up for walking, in fact in most areas outside the actual parks, there are no pavements. From some of the entrances, you still have a 10 minute drive to get to the park you want. This is not Alton Towers or Chessington World of Adventures, this is a 47 SQUARE MILE area. You can not begin to imagine how big it is. A classic example of somebody who has no idea what Walt Disney World is all about, is my mother, who on hearing we were going for two weeks said, “Fancy going to a fun fair for two weeks”.
Walt Disney World is made up of several parks, The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and two water theme parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Plus there is Downtown Disney which has three areas of shops, restaurants and night clubs.
In the high season and peak seasons, the parks open at 7am and close at midnight and if you started when they open and stay until they close, you still may not get to do everything on your first visit. When people say they want to stay for two or three days to do Disney, I always think, Oh Boy! They are going to miss so much.
Children also get very tired and over excited so it is never a good idea to rush them around all day without a decent break. A good rule of thumb is, park one day, rest -day the next. So many of my guests re-book with me to come back again as they did not do it all in one trip.
So be prepared you are in for a great deal of fun.
