What’s new in Disneyworld for 2012? Part 1
Walt Disney World is in the middle of a huge re-development program and most of it will be done by summer 2012.
Downtown Disney, a free area for people to wander around to shop and dine, will not be finished for a while longer though. They are building a new “beach” area leading down to the lake in Pleasure Island, it is under construction at the moment. Some new shops have already opened in West Side, Pleasure Island and Market Place but they have not decided yet exactly what will be replacing the many night clubs in Pleasure Island. The only thing they have said about it, is that it will be more family oriented than it was before. The main place to go for night clubs is now Universal Boardwalk.
The changes at Magic Kingdom are well under way and some are already finished.
Adventure Land has not changed much yet except for some new restaurants and shops. This area is under construction at the moment so more will be built in due course.
Frontier Land has not changed much yet and there is no information on what will be new – maybe nothing as all the rides there are very popular and don’t need changing. At the Haunted Mansion, a favourite of returning visitors, a new graveyard has been built. It is very light hearted and funny and not in the least bit scary for little ones. Some of the head stones are very witty indeed, for example: “Here floats Culpepper Clyne allergic to dirt so he’s pickled in brine. He braved the sea and all her wrath, but drowned on land while taking a bath”. The ride itself is the same though.
Tomorrow land has not been changed much yet, although Space Mountain is now darker and faster than it used to be. It is the first time I have come off that ride feeling very sick indeed.
The main changes are in Fantasy Land. The area which used to be known as Toon Town, a section especially created for the toddlers, has gone and is now a building site where they are creating a lot of exciting new rides and restaurants. Fantasy Land has always been for the younger visitors so that theme is the same. It will create a much larger area for New Fantasy Land which used to be quite small.
