What is happening to Test Track?

As most of you know, the high speed ride called Test Track is located in the Epcot park in our favourite park of all, Disneyworld Florida.

What you may not know is that Test Track will close during 2012!

But, hang on guys, do not go into panic mode; it is closed only for a complete and extensive overhaul, so all good.

The whole ride is going to be pretty well completely gutted and instead of being designed by the Disney Imagineers (as before) it has been turned over to the top engineers at G. M. (General Motors) their long term sponsor)It has long been rumoured that General Motors may pull out of their involvement with Test Track so it is good to know that this is not the case.

They will be installing all new cutting edge electronics and the screens are going to be updated.

The whole area is going to undergo a complete refurb and the queueing system will be re jigged. To be honest it is all looking a little tired now so probably about time to do this.

It is rumoured (but not confirmed) that the ride will be a dual attraction, with a historical ride through option or the high speed ride we al know and love, but updated. I always like these informative rides so I am very much looking forward to this. And good to get a little painless knowledge into the kids heads.

The cost is estimated to be around an eye watering sixty million dollars and the closure should be from april to september only.

As before you need to be 40 inches or taller to experience this ride.

I well remember visiting Epcot just after the construction of Test Track (but before it opened) and we were taken aside and asked if we would like to try it out. What a privelege. We felt very special being among the first on the ride and on our next visit the queues were horrendous (more than an hour wait and this was out of season) So who knows, before long, maybe we will be among the first to try out the improved version.

I do think we are lucky to have 2 big guns in the Orlando area (Universal and Disney) and they do spur each other on to bigger and better things
