What a trip this was! Part 2

After a pretty disastrous start to our first holiday to Orlando, we are finally settled into our comfortable hotel in Crawley, where we are spending the night before we catch our flight to Orlando tomorrow afternoon.

After a pleasant afternoon shopping in Crawley we return to our rooms and find that they are just as blisteringly hot as they were when we arrived – despite the air con having been blasting out ever since. We call down to reception who offer to move us. We are tired but we know we won’t sleep in this heat so we go and check out the new rooms, which thankfully are much cooler, and decide to make the move.

Having completed the change of rooms we fall exhaustedly into bed. What a gruelling couple of days it has been. Sleep comes quickly and we all wake refreshed. We must take our car to the long-stay car park at the airport, but when we arrive we find its huge, and you have to find a space and then walk to a bus shelter which is the shuttle pick up points. Simples, you may say! However, it makes more sense to us to empty the luggage at the bus stop and then hope the space nearby which you have identified is not filled before you get to it. This saves you having to drag all your luggage across the car park.

Leaving us with the luggage, Paul goes and parks the car and then we wait for the shuttle. And wait. And wait. Jets are screaming low overhead, skimming the perimeter fence, with wheels lowered for landing. At last the bus finally arrives, and a very unhelpful bus driver urges us to hurry up. We start hurling four large and heavy suitcases (this is before the 23k limit! ) and four small suitcases onto the bus, together with various handbags, cameras and a video camera. But even so we are not quick enough, and the bus driver attempts to move off with my husband still at the roadside with a suitcase! However, at last we are on our way, and the old familiar excitement begins. We arrive at the airport and unload the luggage – as quickly as we can in case the driver drives off again with our precious suitcases.

We climb up the long winding ramp until we reach the terminal and scan the monitors for our check in zone. Having found it we note that our flight, which is due to leave at 12. 55 pm is going to be an hour late. Oh well, we think, more time for a bit of retail therapy.

Little did we know. . . . .
