Water, Water…every where!!!
As fabulous as going to the theme parks in Florida are, for my family certainly, we found that the water parks offered by Disney are just a MUST on your Florida trip, just as soon as you enter this haven, you feel as if you have escaped to a true paradise!! No need to take time out of your busy holiday schedule to head for the beaches, why not dive into the tropical watery paradise at Disney’s exotic oasis known as “Typhoon Lagoon”?
First, my safety warning, if you are heading straight for the large pool area , where families can escape to high waves of extreme excitement , all placed at the bottom of Mount Mayday, be very careful, remember you can surf in this lagoon , it is one of the largest inland wave pools with almost 3 million gallons of water (pretty sure that statistic is correct!), and when the horn blows those waves are coming in big and fast, it may not be the real sea, but it deserves the same respect and caution at all times, make sure you are ready and safe with younger or less experienced swimmers. Watching amongst the palm trees is still a spectacle worth seeing for the not so experienced swimmers!
Now, that said, no trip to WDW and Florida, can be complete without a visit to at least one of the water parks!!
There truly is something for everyone here! Whether navigating the exciting waterslides and streams, swimming with real sharks and tropical fish or conquering man-made waves in one of the country's largest wave pool, Typhoon Lagoon promises the most wonderful and wet water adventure known to man...or fish. We have been visiting Typhoon Lagoon now on each trip for a number of years, and just recently, and unbelievably, we went to find their newest addition in the park, Crush and Gusher!! Now, whilst I have to confess sending our 12 year old on her own first (YES! I am a coward!!), we were astonished and pleased to find that the queue was a quite respectable 15 minutes, and this allowed her, and then us, to go on a few times! Wow!! How great is it?? The “rafts” that you sit in, are comfortable , just listen to the safety instructions and pick your route, there are (3?), and off you go!!
We had several goes and thoroughly enjoyed the fun!! Totally recommend this ride! Whilst on here, my husband chose to continue on his incredible, “Death” defying journey around the lazy river!! Think the poor chap needed to unwind a little, and of course it is an excellent opportunity to quietly plan your next park, or shopping trip!!
The various slides around the park, are just the greatest water fun, and floating across the “Shark” pool, though a little short in time, is still a great experience, bit chilly mind!!
It really is a fun packed day, but really relaxing too, nice places to grab food, a little shopping if you need beachwear and for a small fee you can hire your towels and lockers so all valuables can be kept safely locked away until time to go home. Until the next time.
