Walmart
This is not Walmart as we know it in the UK – it is a huge mega-superstore that sells almost everything at great prices! And it is open 24hrs, so if you are jet-lagged and getting up at 4am, off you go shopping!!
Ok, it’s not the best quality but if you are looking for gifts to take home, check out Walmart for every kind of Florida mug etc and particularly at the store on the 192 by Medieval Times, there is every size of Disney Clothing available.
You can start your villa holiday by buying all your food and drinks from Walmart (although Publix is probably a little cheaper but not as much fun!). Firstly, find a place for you all to meet in case you get separated – with the kids running to the huge Playstation / Gameboy section, this may happen!
The staff are always very friendly here and very helpful. Queues are usually quite long, full of sunburnt English people!! There are “less than 20 item” aisles, which are handy.
We often don’t bother to buy many clothes for our girls (7 and 10) to go on holiday with as one stop here, and you get shorts, T-shirts, all-in-one short suits, swimsuits, beach dresses in one shop! As I said, not great quality but it lasts the holiday and the summer here and you will not see anyone over here in the same things. My daughter loves the Mary, Kate & Ashley range so her money is spent here as they seem to do far nicer items in the US.
If you want Capri trousers for yourself, this is a good place for both cotton ones and denim type. Also T-shirts and blouses – just the ticket in Florida. Great beachwear, i.e. overdresses etc. Cheap underwear too!
The shoes are great for your holiday. They don’t wear well but the kids buy a few pairs to tide them over the summer here. Don’t bother to buy them, thinking they will be able to wear them to school every day for a term as they will fall apart.
Electrical equipment is comparatively low-priced here – although Best Buys tends to be slightly cheaper – remember Gameboy games are universal so will play in UK machines but Playstation 2 games will only work if your UK console is chipped to do so, as with DVDs (need to be the correct region).
Toys! If you visit at Christmas as we have done in the past – you can buy so much of the children’s toys here at half the price than the UK. For example, Bratz dolls are $12 (about £8) s opposed to £14 here!! And they have different things here too than you would find in the UK. Beware however, I bought a talking Goofy but when I got it back to the villa, it was Spanish speaking!!
Cosmetics, again very inexpensive at Walmart – you can be everything you will ever need here, in about 20 different varieties, so if you forget something, don’t panic. (Walgreens are also a great place for cosmetics/toiletries etc, again 24hours).
There is a “home” section for linen, towels, tools, gardens etc – but only us poor owners have to spend time in these areas!
