Visiting Epcot on a cool day 2010
After a record breaking cold spell in Orlando, it is now day 11 so we decided to put a brave face on and visit Disney. Getting our newly acquired ‘bargain’ jackets into the car we set off in beautiful sunshine with clear blue skies. All records for cold weather were broken last night - 10th January 2010 but looking at the weather from inside you just would not believe it.
As we approached the Disney Parks it was decision time. We had visited Animal Kingdom last week in the cold, and had a really good time. People seem to be far more friendly when there are unusual weather situations, and although everyone had been wrapped up well, they sure were going to let nothing stop them enjoying their vacation. We spoke to more people that day than every before when we had been to a Park!
We decided we would go to Epcot today, largely because the last twice we had been it was during the evening and we wanted to see the beautiful floral displays that Epcot bring. The car park was far from full and we were able to park very close to the entrance. Even the transport trams were not running - it was that quiet. Great, at least we would not be waiting for rides etc. , which is always a bonus.
We strolled at a very relaxed leisurely pace toward the Rose & Crown Pub and Dining Room. We were surprised how busy this was with people drinking cold beer on a chilly day! ! ! The queue for Fish and Chips was just amazing, and we visited the UK Tea Shop just to see what was on offer. It was the American’s of course who were busy getting their English Breakfast Tea and buying gift.
We then headed round the lake and stopped several times to watch various performers including the French Waiters who were acrobats and performed some really scary tricks.
The sun continued to shine and we stopped at Italy and bought a large hot steaming frothy cafe latte. We were lucky to find a table in the Piazza and sat in the sunshine watching the world go by. We even took our jackets off, it was so warm in the sun, and we were pleased to see that there were several people with short sleeve tee shirts on. Definitely a sign of warmer days to come.
We continued our stroll and eventually got all the way round the lake stopping off in the shops of Germany, China, Norway and Mexico. We then thought we would try for the third time to try to get on Soarin’ but there was a 45 minute wait so it was not to be. We went and got in a short line for Test Track, how cool is that ride, and as it was not busy, we decided to do it again just to make sure our adrenalin was still high. We would need to be high to get on our next ride of choice, Mission Space. We first joined the Green Team for a mild mission into space as an astronaut, and as if that wasn’t enough, we went again and this time went for the jackpot and joined the Orange Team. This ride is definitely not for the feint hearted and we decided this was the last ride we would do today. Any other ride would not have lived up to the thrills that Mission Space gave us, so we will start with the easy rides on our next visit! ! !
