Visit Prime Outlets

Some holidays on our way to our villa in Orlando we stop off at Naples on the Gulf Coast for a couple of nights. We do this by flying into Miami and then going to the Gulf Coast along Alligator Alley. Much as we look we have yet to see an alligator along here!

Naples is really a historic town and we love to visit Tin City whilst we are there. It is difficult to imagine it is only a relatively short time that this has been developed. It was in 1976 that it was decided to develop what was the Old Marine Market Place. This was a shopping bazaar built on the site of a 1920' s clam shelling and oyster processing plant incorporating waterfront buildings. These buildings had originally been used for the boat building industry. The idea had been to show the maritime spirit that had been at the heart of Naples fishing industry.

Now it was decided to turn this into Tin City Waterfront Shops and Restaurants. These are a mixture of boutiques where you can shop for clothing and collectibles along with some lovely restaurants. It is themed to bring the new and the old together.

We usually spend a couple of hours browsing through the shops before deciding on where we would like to enjoy a meal. If we go very early in the day we often opt for a lunch at M & M' s CAFÉ. They have quite a large menu that includes salads, soups, wraps and burgers. If you still have room you can choose from 28 flavours of ice cream!

If we want dinner we have a choice of either Pincher’s Crab Shack or the Riverwalk Fish and Ale House.

Pincher’s Crab Shack opens daily for lunch and dinner and has a 2 for 1 Happy Hour all day and night every day. We like the Coconut Shrimp here which is served with a yummy orange marmalade. They also do lots of different fish baskets which are very good. The grouper is also good and it has not been caught far from where you are eating it!

We first went to the Riverwalk Fish and Ale House on our first visit to Naples in the late 80s and we have never tired of going back. There is a lovely atmosphere with its planked floors and open air dining. You eat surrounded by lots of memorabilia and photographs. There is a Happy Hour at the Riverwalk Monday to Friday 3. 00pm to 6. 00pm and Sunday brunch 10. 30am to 2. 00pm. Again there is a great variety of the freshest fish on offer, I cannot comment on the desserts because we have never left enough room for any!

If you do go to Naples a visit to Tin City is a must.
