Unusual things to see in Orlando
Apart from all the usual holiday attractions on offer in Orlando there are some amazing sights which will have you holding your breath in awe.
Some of the most spectacular are at Sea World in the Shark Encounter. Apart from sharks there are sword fish and the most unusual fish you will ever see.
Giant sea cows or Manatees are majestically swimming around in their tank but these wonderful creatures can be seen in their natural habitat in the seas on the east coast. Stingrays can be seen and interacted with at Sea World too. Watching killer whales and dolphins perform is not to every ones taste but is still rather amazing to watch.
But of all the most unusual things to be seen, to the Brits anyway, who are only used to seeing birds as big as sea gulls, are the vultures just hanging around the suburbs waiting for the garbage men to drop something for them to eat or for unsuspecting foreigners to leave rubbish sacks out without putting them in a bin. They will go through these like our urban foxes do. Also if you rent a villa in the quieter areas off the main highways, you may see enormous cranes just strolling around looking for food. Of course if you wander too far off the beaten track into the wooded areas (not recommended) you may spot some rather unfriendly locals who either slither on their belly’s on the ground or smile at you with their mouths closed. Whilst on the subject of the natural wonders around Orlando, there is a Banyan Tree that is the biggest specimen of any tree I have ever seen. It is in what was once Cypress Gardens but which is soon to become Lego Land.
Mind you, I am always in awe of the fact that the normal roads one travels on every day are as wide or wider than our motorways and you would not attempt to cross them. Crossing at the lights in Orlando can take rather a long time and it feels liking trying to cross the M25.
Looking at enormous water towers with Mickey Mouse shaped ears is pretty amazing too. As are road signs in garish colours of red, yellow and blue. If you travel off towards the coast any where near the Kennedy Space Center, it is very possible to see a rocket launch without you even knowing there was one as they do happen quite regularly. That is not something you see every day any where else in the world.
Staying in the heart of the attractions in Orlando, you will notice that at nine o clock every evening there is an ominous banging which sounds like thunder. Don’t panic, it is just the fireworks at Epcot!
An airboat across the marshes is not a common sight either unless you are in Florida and neither is the site of several hot air balloons taking to the sky every morning. This is a very colourful and spectacular thing to watch but even better to experience.
So come along and enjoy some of these experiences or yourself.
