Unusual Things To Do in Florida
We all love our visits to Florida with its great Theme and Water Parks the endless shopping and maybe even trips to either coast to soak up even more of the glorious sunshine.
However in addition to all this there are other experiences you may wish to enjoy.
The beautiful Gulf Coast this can be reached from Orlando in about an hour and a half. We sometimes just go for the day or have also stayed overnight in an inexpensive motel.
When we go here we usually head towards St Petersburg and often visit the Salvador Dali Musuem. This is well worth a visit as here you will find the world' s most comprehensive collection of original works by this renowned Spanish artist.
The museum has over 90 original oil paintings, more than 100 watercolors and drawings, and 1, 300 graphics, photographs, sculptures and objects d' art. , it really is a lovely relaxing place to spend half a day.
For a completely different experience visit the Showcase of Citrus this is located in Clermont. Here you can pick and buy Florida' s freshest citrus as well as other great gifts from Florida. There are so many varieties of citrus that you will be spoilt for choice, I know peak season is in January but am not quite sure if they have any down time later in the year.
In downtown Orlando a visit to Sak Comedy Lab, located near the Amway Arena, is worthwhile for all members of the family. You will see some of the most creative, up-and-coming talent in this 200 seat Comedy Theatre and tickets are relatively inexpensive.
If you want to experience what life was like for a cow hunter in 1870 go to Cow Camp located in Lake Kissimmee State Park. You will see Florida Cracker cattle and taste the strongest coffee ever! Remember to take along a picnic lunch.
If you want to get a taste of ' Old Florida' go to Mount Dora this quaint lakeside town is just a half-hour drive northwest of Orlando. You can spend a day here just browsing all kinds of charming shops and boutiques as well as enjoying a meal in one of the restaurants.
Go back in time to experience one of only 10 drive-ins left in the United States at the Silvermoon Drive- In at Lakeland. This first opened in 1948 and these days you can watch a popular, first-run film in the privacy of your car. Be sure to finish your visit by going to the nostalgic snack bar.
These are just a few of the unusual things you can find to do in Florida I am sure you will find many more
