Universal Studios - City Walk
Universal City Walk is located at the entrance to Universal and Universal Island of Adventure. The area is made up of many restaurants, shops, clubs and a large cinema complex.
To access Universal City walk is free apart from the car parking fee of $11, however if you are already in one of the Universal parks it is included in the fee you pay to park. As there is no other car parking in the area you need to use this, but it is very easy to get from the car parks to City Walk. The area is much larger than Downtown Disney and does not feel as claustrophobic.
In the area are many top name restaurants, most are located near or around the massive lake. The most impressive of all the restaurants is the world’s largest Hard Rock café. The Hard Rock has 2 main areas, one for eating and the other for watching one of the many concerts that happen weekly. The auditorium can hold up to 700 people and has had many of the worlds top bands pass through its doors. If you have ever eaten in a Hard Rock café the food is top draw and you really know you have had a meal when you have finished!
Some of the other places to eat are Bob Marley – A tribute to freedom, this has many Caribbean dishes and hot and spicy food. This is one of the more popular restaurants and It is recommended to arrive early to reserve a seat. We you are normally given a flashing disc that buzzes when your table is ready. In the meantime you are encouraged to try one of the many cocktails.
If you are after something a little quieter why not try the main lake where you can take a boat ride and cruise across to the other side. This ride is free.
If you want to watch a new film release why not try the large mega cinema, here they show all the newest films and also some of the older Universal ones. We visited the cinema and have to say it is one of the best experiences we have been to in a cinema. They use all the latest technology where picture and sound quality is first rate.
If you are into shopping there are plenty of shops to suit and it caters for most tastes. My favourite is the surf shop with the world’s largest selection of surf shorts!
If you are after a night away from the villa, why not try Universal City Walk. It has some of the best restaurants in the area and they are all very reasonable in price. The street shows that are on earlier in the night are very good and keep the kids occupied. This place is well worth a visit. If I was to compare Universal City Walk to Downtown Disney I would say it is more upmarket and caters more for adults.
