Tusker House Lunch
Before we went to Animal Kingdom we had decided to have lunch at Tusker House as it had been recommended by some guests that had stayed at our villa. As we would normally recommend we made reservations before our visit.
When we went the prices were: Adults: Lunch $19. 99/ Children: Lunch $10. 99
Before going to Tusker House we had got Fastpasses for the Kilimanjaro Safari which is close by.
When we arrived we initially thought all the seating was outside but were pleased to find out there is lots of seating inside as it was a very hot day.
As we were early for our reservation we spent about ten minutes listening to the African drummers who were giving a performance outside the restaurant. When we entered the restaurant we were seated almost immediately. The air conditioning felt great after a morning walking around the park. You could still hear the drummers inside the restaurant but not too loudly.
The restaurant inside was huge and our waitress walked us through the ' Market Place' where the food was and it smelled really good. The waitress stayed at our table to explain where all the food was and was very polite and friendly.
There was an amazing choice of salads including Endive, Apple and Walnut Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing / Caesar Salad /Tomato and Cucumber Salad / Sliced Turkey, Ham and Cheeses /Tunisian Couscous Salad /Green Bean and Onion Salad/ Curried Rice Salad. The Couscous and Curried rice were voted favourites with our party. Fortunately we had seen the full array of food available before we helped ourselves to the salads or we might have over indulged not leaving sufficient room for the main course.
One of our party was vegetarian and they also had a good choice of food including Marrakesh Couscous with roasted vegetables / Vegetable samosas / Spiced tandoori tofu / Jollaf Rice and Pearl Couscous with basil which she said was delicious.
The girls, one of whom can be quite picky really enjoyed their meal. I think it was the first time they had been anywhere where they could make their own Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches! One of them helped herself to Corn Dog Nuggets and Chicken Drumsticks accompanied by Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes while the other one had Macaroni Cheese.
My Mother had the Salmon Fillet with Root Vegetables and Cabbage whilst I opted for a Malay Curry Chicken with Basmati Rice which was so good I went back for a second helping! My Father had a huge helping of Sirloin as well as Pork Loin accompanied by a Green Bean Medley.
We really did not have much room left for desserts but all managed small helpings of Fruit Cobbler and a Banana-cinnamon bread pudding.
It really was a very pleasant experience and a much needed rest in the middle of a hot day.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at Animal Kingdom before heading back to our villa for an evening swim and a light supper before bed.
