Treasure Island Beach
Treasure Island is one of the many beaches along the Gulf Coast which has beautiful white sand that stretches for miles. All the beaches along the coast are amazing and so worth a visit, even for a day.
Located not far from St Petersburg, Tampa you could take a trip along to Bush Gardens, although that would be another Theme park day, so it was not on our list to do this visit.
For us it was a long weekend break between the hustle and bustle fun of the theme parks, so many rides, parades and shows to see, we decided a relaxing long weekend would recharge our batteries for the second week. It was less than 3 hours driving, so you could do it in a day but personally, I think it is something that needs a relaxed time to take in all that sea air and stunning white sand. Having said that now we have explored Treasure Island, we will return for a day to one of the beaches on our next trip, if we don’t have time for a two-day trip.
The drive itself was an easy route and did not feel long at all. Driving over the St Petersburg bridge was quite an experience, with nothing but miles of sea stretched out either side of the road, not sure how I felt about that even though it looked stunning. It is amazing to think the road is built over so much water.
We stayed at a beachfront hotel with a view from the balcony that was breathtaking, the sea was so calming, the Sunset is a sight that will stay with us forever. On our last morning we got up and had breakfast on the balcony, with a surprise visit from some dolphins swimming along near the shore, they swam around long enough for us to watch them play, our camera was packed away so we never managed to get a photo.
The sea was warm and pleasant to swim in, we had to pinch ourselves to remind us we were swimming in the sea in November. It was lovely.
A walk along the beach that took about half an hour, lead us to John’s Pass village and boardwalk, a wonderful place with quaint shops and restaurants. It has a real seaside village atmosphere with a shell shop, leather goods shop, handmade jewellery, Ice cream and sweets stores. There was some live entertainment the day we walked around, which was lovely to watch while having lunch seated outside.
With plenty of parking, we decided to drive back in the evening and see it all in the evening light after a wonderful meal in Bubba Gumps.
All in all, it was a lovely weekend.
