Florida Guide > Travelling
Enjoy Florida and travel independently making the most of your budget.
More and more people are making a conscious choice of arranging their own travel arrangements these days, bypassing the travel agent altogether, hence cutting out the middle man and saving loads of dosh in the process. To me this is nothing new as we have been arranging our own travel for many years and do understand the apprehension some people have at the prosect of doing this. But in my experience it is worth the little bit of work which it entails and while saving money means that you can have even more holidays.
The internet is a great advantage when arranging travel and is now easily accessible to everyone, it is available at internet cafes across the country and is free to use in most libraries where tuition is very often available.
Accommodation has always been important to me, I know a lot of people have the opinion that it is just somewhere to lay your head but I disagree as I love my comforts and enjoy a little bit of luxury. Private villas have always had the misconception of being very expensive BUT this is not the case when you consider that the price that you pay is for the entire party and not per person as tour operators usually price. Especially when two families or an extended family can share the cost. Taking into account that with hotel rooms you have one room, a private villa usually offers so much more from multiple bedrooms, private swimming pools, and some offer games rooms and far too many other additional luxuries to mention. By booking a villa from one of these sites you can’t go wrong and all villas have been verified.
So accommodation sorted out, attraction tickets can also be purchased at greatly discounted prices from these sites and through the villa owners themselves via these sites.
Next step flights...
Florida, a wonderful destination for families can often become extremely expensive, and flights play a big part in draining the budget. Yes you have the main players i.e.:- Virgin and BA, yes these are wonderful; carriers and throughout the year will offer great deals on flights and are excellent value for money. But you also have the option of Charter flights, low cost and very often no frills, these can be a way of making big savings and with that in mind some compromise has to be made in the way of leg room, on board meals, and entertainment. Although extra leg room and onboard meals can very often be purchased at an extra cost, they are not always essential.
We have flown a couple of times recently with Thomson and air tours , you will find that these charter flights will fly into Sanford as opposed to Orlando international, but this is no big deal as it is a very easy drive to Orlando and takes around one hour.
These flights are in abundance mainly in the summer and you can pick up great prices, we paid £120 each in May and £140 in October, this just takes a little time searching for the best prices and alternatively if you want someone else to do the work then this site www.orlandovillas.com has a great link for really good flight deals.
Just make sure that you take plenty of reading matter for the flight, yes they do have in flight entertainment although not individual screens in the back of seats. You can take your own food aboard (I’m never keen on in flight meals anyway). But any drinks must be purchased on board.
With that said there are some great savings to be had and added altogether makes Florida a more reasonably priced accessible holiday.
