Top Tips for shoppers.
The shopping in Florida is great; oh yes it is! and with some careful planning, you can save a fortune. I have guests who are happy to spend a whole day in a Super Walmart, for instance and leave it at that. Other tempting deals can be found at stores like Ross, T. J. Maxx and Bealls outlets. These stores stock last seasons items or overstocks and sell them at huge discounts. Other good items to look for are jeans, T Shirts and sneakers (trainers) - they have the brands that young ones want at a considerable saving on UK prices.
If you favour a mall, then try Mall of Millennia, Premium Outlets or the old favourite The Florida Mall.
Let us start with Premium Outlets which is situated on International Drive. Here you will find Tommy Hilfiger, Sketchers, Victorias Secret, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein amongst a host of other stores.
Mall of Millenia has Macys, M. A. C, Boss, Jimmy Choo and Juicy Couture. Again, dozens more shops to explore here as well.
The Florida Mall will probably be a little further from your vacation home but a lot of people like its mix of more every day stores and eating places. They have a J. C. Penney, Macys, Sears and an Apple store.
In recent years smaller shopping centres have sprung up where you drive to each store. This is much easier if you are short of time. The Loop and Posner Center fall into this group. You will find Penney's, Target, Ross, Dollar Tree and similar in these places. Mimis is at The Loop and that is proving a popular place to eat.
If you buy a copy the Orlando Sentinel, that will advertise when stores like Penney' s are having a sale and usually have booklets of coupons on certain days of the week.
Some stores also offer over 55s a discount on selected days. In Ross, for instance, they offer 10% off on Tuesdays. The prices are already slashed so well worth timing your trip. I will sometimes do recce the day before so I know exactly where the best buys are.
My Top Tip is to pack as few clothes as you can (your vacation home will have a washer and dryer) and fill your empty suitcases for your return.
Watch the limits on how much you are allowed to bring back to the U K but between you, there is enough allowance to splurge.
