Tokyo Blue at Fort Lauderdale
Tokyo Blue is one of the newest restaurants in Fort Lauderdale. It is located in the Ocean Manor Resort Hotel. It is advertised as a Sushi bar and exotic night club, and it is certainly different.
Marketed as a high end restaurant it offers an eclectic mix of Japanese, Thai, and Peruvian cuisine, together with steak. The restaurant is off the hotel lobby, and you will see a wide room with a sushi bar in the middle. To the left is a dining room which has big patio doors which opens out onto a 70 ft long dining patio, overlooking the ocean. However, it must be noted that the hotel swimming pool is between the restaurant and the ocean itself, so the view is a little spoilt by the sight of children and families jumping in and out of the water.
There is a large 1200 gallon aquarium which greets you, and the floor has a polished blue concrete floor and LED glass columns. The tables and chairs are black. Its décor is cool and modern with Asian influences. There are gem encrusted mermaid fins and some kimonos in glass frames adorn the walls. The VIP dining booth has leather wraparound booths, enclosed in diaphanous curtains.
Two of Florida’s top Japanese chefs came together to prepare and present numerous signature dishes with the freshest ingredients – Chef Mai runs the kitchen whilst Chef Akira is in charge of the Sushi Bar - the first thing you notice is that the restaurant smells of fish. There are also healthy choices such as vegetarian selections, together with American staples such as meat, poultry and chicken. If you want steak there is filet mignon, porterhouse, NY strip and a 34 oz prime rib eye, plus organic chicken and Colorado lamb chops. Presentation is exquisite, but the menu is pricey.
At around 10. 30 the place becomes a night club with either a DJ or a live performance, but food service continues until 2. 00 pm weekdays, and 3. 00 pm at weekends.
Located as it is off the lobby area of a fairly moderately priced hotel makes it rather strange, as Tokyo Blue likes to present an exotic façade, and yet the hotel itself is not so high end. The food is undoubtedly good, particularly the Sushi, and it is more authentic than many such restaurants, but it is expensive. However, there is an early bird special from 5. 00 pm to 7. 00 pm which is priced at $19. 95 for a glass of wine, appertizer, entrée and dessert from a special menu.
Tokyo Blue is located on Galt Ocean Drive at the Ocean Manor Beach Resort.
