Tinker Bell at Pixie Hollow

One of the most favourite Disney characters is Tinker Bell, and now she has several new fairy friends. All of these can be found at Pixie Hollow at Magic Kingdom where they are available to greet guests, sign autographs and pose for pictures. You can find Pixie Hollow in Toon Town. As you walk along a pathway which runs alongside the banks of an enchanted pond you will appear to shrink to fairy size. Tinker Bell is joined by her fairy friends, Rosetta, the garden fairy, Silvermist, a water fairy, Fawn, an animal fairy and Iridessa, a light fairy.

Of course, Tinker Bell is one of the oldest characters at Disney World, having originated in the famous children’s story by J M Barrie, ‘Peter Pan. ’ She debuted at Walt Disney World Resort in the ever popular classic attraction, ‘Peter Pan’s Flight’ which opened in Fantasyland in 1971. Children and adults, alike, love this attraction, which immerses you in the Peter Pan story, as passengers aboard a flying pirate ship bound for Never Never Land. She debuted in the Walt Disney World parade on top of a float in Disney’s Enchanted Adventures Parade in 2007, during the Pirate and Princess Party.

But who could not have seen her as she flies across the sky from high above Cinderella’s Castle each night when the wonderful firework display has finished? She even appears in the Shrek attraction at Universal.

Tinker Bell is usually depicted wearing a short lime-green dress with green slippers. Whenever she moves she leaves behind a trail of pixie dust, which can help humans to fly if they just believe it will! In the story of Peter Pan she is a rather jealous pixie, with a voice like a tinkling bell. The model on whom she was based was Margaret Kerry, who created the real Tinker Bell for the animator, Marc Davies. According to J. M. Barrie, ‘When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies. ’

But did you know that the original book was donated to the Great Ormond St Hospital for Sick Children by J. M. Barrie?

Tinker Bell now has a huge range of merchandise associated with her, and not surprisingly, it continually ranks among the top sellers of character based merchandise.

Disney has recently released a new animated movie with a huge range of new characters which join Tinker Bell in a fantasy story. For the first time Tinker Bell will have a real voice.

So it is that Tinker Bell leads us into a world of imagination, where fairies abound and a magical wonderland exists. Next time you are at Magic Kingdom, take a walk to Pixie Hollow and meet her and her friends, or just look up into the sky as the final firework fades, and you, too, will see the magic.
