Things to do in Florida (8)

Theme Parks are the main attraction for Florida vacationers. Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot and the Animal Kingdom are the best known. SeaWorld offers a full day of rides, aquaria and spell binding dolphin and thrilling killer-whale shows. They also now have a water theme park full of water slides and water fun called Aquatica.

Universal and Islands of Adventure are more popular now than ever before since The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has arrived.

The beaches are great for surfing on the east coast and shell collecting on the west coast. Water sports, fishing and dolphin spotting cruises are popular activities anywhere.

Kennedy Space Center is a great experience. See the shuttle launch pad, IMAX theatre, Saturn Rocket and you can even have lunch with an astronaut! If you time it right, you may even see a launch for real.

Take in the historic sights, including the Art Deco district in Miami or the old Spanish settlement town of St Augustine.

Enjoy a 3-day cruise to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale.

The many State Parks offer a great day with Florida wildlife. Fishing, jet skiing, pontoon boats, cycling and walking are all popular pursuits amidst the unspoilt mangroves and waterways.

See endangered manatees at Crystal River or take an airboat ride with a native Indian across the Everglades. See many alligators and birds and visit an Indian settlement on a hammock.

Most of these attractions can be taken from your base in Orlando or from the Gulf Coast.

Things to do at Christmas

In Orlando, balloons and floats from Macys Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City, are on display for a daily Christmas parade at Universal Studios.

And at Universal' s Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing turns into Grinchmas, with live performances of ' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Also in Orlando, guests at Walt Disney World can attend Mickey' s Very Merry Christmas Party, a separately ticketed event at Magic Kingdom, which this year includes a new stage show.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights offers colourful lit-up and animated displays at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and a life size, 16-foot-high gingerbread house can be seen in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

At Epcot, you can learn about international traditions at Holidays Around the World, and hear the Christmas story told by celebrity narrators with a choir and live orchestra, as part of the Candlelight Processional.
