Theme park alternatives
Downtown Orlando.
Not many people realise it but just twenty minutes from the tourist area of the theme parks, is Downtown Orlando. It is a vibrant and bustling area which has some of the best bars and restaurants around, plus some beautiful park areas and fascinating museums such as the Orlando Science Center or the Orlando Museum of Art.
Winter Park
This is a place for those of you who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. It used to be marketed as “A beautiful winter retreat for well to do people” and it still retains this air today. Some of the richest people in the area live here. If you wander down Park Avenue you will notice numerous street cafes and boutiques selling upmarket goods and clothing for all ages. To get a real feel for life in this area, why not take a boat trip on Lake Osceola and have a look at some of the mega mansions of the rich and famous.
Horse World
If you fancy trying horse riding, there is the Horse World Stables on Ponciana Boulevard in Kissimmee. There are hundreds of acres to explore on horse back. They offer group lessons in age groups teaching you basic horsemanship skills such as grooming, tacking, safety and general horse care. This is followed by trail riding and all instruction is given in a stress free fun environment. If you can already ride, they have different riding trails according to your ability. The trail rides last one and a half hours.
Golf
There are more golf courses in Florida than in any other state in America and over one hundred and sixty of them are in Orlando. There are championship courses, acadamies where you can get some advice on your swing or just some of the worlds most amazing crazy golf courses.
Airboat Rides
There are many places where you can go on an airboat ride, but one of the best is the Boggy Creek Airboats. These boats carry several passengers and the driver will give you a tour over the reeds and water to spot some of the wild life. You can see alligators and exotic birds and they will stop for you to take photographs. It is really an exhilarating experience to go swirling along on top of the reeds at high speed, but do be warned, it is very, very noisy. They will give you ear defenders to wear but it would not be wise to take very small children on one.
Just some ideas fro you to consider if you would like a change from the parks.
