The Wave - Contemporary Hotel
This recently refurbished restaurant in the Contemporary Hotel at Disney is situated on the very ground floor, below the main mezzanine floor.
We booked a table for 9pm as, being Christmas it was busy, and as Magic Kingdom was walking distance from the hotel, thought we would walk over to Magic Kingdom after dinner, to enjoy the fireworks and some rides.
It is billed as new wave (hence the name) cuisine, healthy choices with a new twist.
As you walk into the restaurant it certainly is striking in design, and the bar and lobby area are very distinctive with their plush blue sofa' s.
We had just enough time to order drinks before we were shown to our table, I found they serve an excellent passion fruit mojito, and had another one with dinner.
The menu was presented along with a complementary wine list, in case you wanted to have wine pairings with your meal.
Perusing the menu everyone found something different to try, and we all ordered appetizers and entree' s. I highly recommend the soup and the lamb shank, but everyone else would also recommend their choices.
The menu is varied and a little different to most restaurants and has things like cinnamon rubbed grilled pork tenderloin, clam linguini and braised chicken pot pie (which my husband assures me is wonderful).
It isn’t the largest menu I’ve ever seen, but each dish is carefully selected to offer a wide variety of flavours and suit different diets. As is usual with Disney restaurants if you require a special diet then ask the chef to prepare things to suit, they are extremely good at attending to patrons needs.
The food was superb, beautifully presented and the server very attentive, without being pushy.
Their dessert menu is also very different to most restaurants and there are only four choices…. however, each dessert comes with three small taster desserts. Between the 4 of us, we ordered one of each in order to sample all of them, and we weren’t disappointed. They were just enough to finish off a wonderful meal.
We were not rushed to eat and leave, and sat for quite a while after dinner, with coffee and liqueurs, enjoying the ambience.
Dress code is smart casual and although there were children in the restaurant, the layout meant it felt calm and sedate, rather than hurried and noisy as, is the case in many restaurants.
We will certainly be returning to eat here again, hopefully as often as possible.
Try something new at The Wave, you won' t be disappointed.
