The Shoppes at Van Buren
For a shopping experience that’s similar to the shopping you find at Mount Dora, the “Shoppes at Van Buren” might be just what you’re looking for and are a lot closer to “home”. Located at the corner of Ingraham Avenue and 7th Avenue in the old downtown Historic District of Haines City you will find what looks like a mini version of the shopping district of Mount Dora on the second floor of the two story building that at one time was the Van Buren Hotel. The building had been under renovation for the past several years and has recently been completed. Once you ascend the stairs of the old hotel you’ll enter a brightly colored array of little specialty shops which offer items ranging from things for baby to shabby chic vintage items. The staff is very friendly and courteous.
If you’re looking for something unusual or personal for yourself or for someone else, a souvenir, a special chair, picture or quilt, etc. for your home or a gift for someone (even your dog or cat) this place is worth looking into.
Ladies, the purse shop is fantastic. They carry very unique handbags, jewelry and accessories. Everything from fun to chic and elegant.
One of the shops has gift baskets already made up or you can have them customized to your liking. They are gorgeous.
In the “Shabby Chic” section I noticed everything from headboards for your bed to curio cabinets, sachets, doilies, bath soaps, candles, etc. I’m sure the inventory changes from visit to visit so you never know what treasure you may find.
The Christmas shop puts you in the mood for the holidays all year long. Several beautifully decorated Christmas trees are on display. It makes you want to take one home with you. These unique decorations and ornaments can be purchased individually too.
If you have a pampered pet or know someone who does you’re sure to find something for them. Furniture, leashes, collars, dishes, placemats, mugs, gourmet treats and the list of merchandise goes on and on….
There’s more too as they seem to be constantly expanding their line of merchandise and I’m sure there’s a lot I’ve forgotten.
When you’re finished shopping you might want to have a meal at the LaFiesta Mexicana Restaurant which is on the ground floor of the building and has really good authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price.
There are other shops on the ground floor too. One of them does custom window treatments and furniture re-upholstering. Their display of window treatments looks marvelous.
