The Ponderosa
One of the most popular restaurants in Orlando is the Ponderosa. This is a great family restaurant bright and cheerful with a buffet style salad bar. The kids enjoy it as they get to pick what they like and even if it is ice cream or blue jelly for breakfast, that’s OK at the Ponderosa.
They are situated all over Orlando and there is one in just about every area you go, they are friendly, reasonably priced and all have the same layout and extensive menu.
The all you can eat breakfasts are a great favourite with the British tourists and at a very affordable price, these include everything you can possibly think of on the menu from eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, sausages, toast, muffins, pancakes (not forgetting the maple syrup), pies, a great selection of fruit too including fresh strawberries, melon, pineapple, bananas, grapes and just about anything and everything you can want including juice, coffee and tea.
The lunch and dinner menu is slightly different in that you order the main dish you want and then help yourself to the extensive salad bar and deserts. These include starters as well, soups, pasta, and chicken wings, steaks, shrimp. Chicken etc with a choice of fries, baked potatoes, bread sticks and rolls or just the salads, even those have just about every possible type of item that you can think of and more besides. The quality of the food is very good and the choice is remarkable, you cannot fail to find something you like from such a wide variety of foods. Sometimes it is nice to be able to have a small amount of several different things instead of a lot of one thing!
The staff that work there are very friendly as are most of them in Florida and as it is a self-service salad bar the choice is yours. The servers will bring you the coffee and clean plates as you need them and still expect a tip at the end of your meal the same as the other restaurants. It is a very relaxed way of dinning and often families with young children find it easier as the children can usually find several things they like and is less wasteful than ordering a complete meal that they will not eat.
It is a very cheap way of dinning out and with the relaxed atmosphere the dress code is usually shorts and tee – shirts a good breakfast here can set you up for the day.
