The Olive Garden on the 192
Visiting the Olive Garden on the 192 is sometimes a little bit fraught, the restaurant is very good so there is almost always a wait, we have been and they have said the wait is forty five minutes or one hour and we have turned away and gone somewhere else, but once, we decided to wait it out, I think we were all hamburgered out and were just craving for something different, we were told one hour or more.
So we decided that we would go into the bar at the restaurant and have a quiet drink whilst we waited, watching all the people come and go as they were also told times as much or in excess of what we were told, to our surprise, in less than half an hour, we were paged by one of those electronic things that restaurants have, reported to the desk and was shown to our seats.
The menu is amazing, mostly Italian style with lots of pasta dishes and just what the doctor ordered for a change, well cooked food, attentive attendance by the waiters and waitresses, good wine, what more could you want.
Soup is freshly made on the day and absolutely delicious and served with very, very fresh garlic bread which we would probably define as a hot dog bun, but with a salty covering, very nice but do not over indulge with the bread because that would spoil the remaining meal, which believe me, is worth waiting for.
I chose spaghetti carbonara which was angel hair spaghetti with a superb creamy, cheesy, garlicky sauce, makes my mouth water just thinking of it, and the helpings are just the right size so you know that you have eaten, but do not go home feeling uncomfortably bloated.
There is a selection of small sweets such as perhaps a ramekin size lemon cheesecake, small doughnuts with a dip as well as other similarly sized sweets which after the meal is two things, one, just the right size and two, just the right sweetness to finish off a perfect meal.
One thing that we have noticed that they have started when we visited the last time we were there from previous times is, they now offer a taster of whichever wine they think is suitable to go with your meal and I must say they get that right as well. By the way, don’t be afraid to ask for boxes to tae leftovers home, they will do that with pleasure.
So in conclusion, worth a visit, I’ll say so, good food, good drink and an altogether pleasant experience.
