The New Food Outlets at the Florida Turnpike Service Plazas Part 2
The eight plazas on the Florida Turnpike are going to be revamped over the next two years. On a recent trip down the Turnpike we noticed that work had already started at Mile Post 65 at Pompano. There are going to be some exciting changes, but one of the most important will be the introduction of some new eateries, and the replacement of some which have been around for 20 years or more.
KFC
Founded in Louisville, Kentucky, and known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, this fast food chain serves chicken pieces, wraps, salads and sandwiches. Its Colonel Sanders logo is known worldwide.
Taco Bell
This American restaurant chain is based in Irvine, California and specializes in Mexican style food and quick service. Amongst its most popular items are tacos, burritos, quesidillas and nachos.
Nature’s Table
Dick Larson started the first restaurant in the Altamonte Mall in Orlando in 1977. It offered sandwiches, light salads, homemade soups, frozen yogurt and the first smoothies in Florida. The aim of this restaurant is to offer food which is freshly prepared every day on the premises, using the finest ingredients.
Chicken Kitchen
This restaurant focuses on high quality, nutritious, made from scratch fresh food. There is a strict adherence to the American Heart Association guidelines as far as fat, cholesterol and calories are concerned. On offer are healthier and tastier options such as freshly marinated grilled chicken entrees, fresh salads, Pita-Pockettes, Panini Grillers, sandwiches and homemade side orders. No microwaves are used, and nothing is fried, or served from a warming cabinet. Only grilling, broiling, steaming and baking are used.
Villa Pizza
Three new Villa Pizza’s have been opened on the Turnpike already with a fourth one due soon. It started in New York in 1964 and now prides itself on everything being made fresh daily. Dough is made by hand on location, and produce is delivered daily and prepared on site.
Earl of Sandwich
Named after the Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu, who, legend has it, invented the sandwich in 1762 – meat between two slices of bread - so that he could carry on gambling without having to leave the card table to eat. Serving freshly made sandwiches such as the ‘Original’ – roast beef, cheddar cheese and horseradish sauce – or ‘The Full Montagu, ’ which has the addition of turkey.
Panda Express
Offering Chinese food, this chain of quick service restaurants was started in 1973 to serve traditional Chinese favourites and new creations. It is the largest chain of Chinese fast food restaurants in the USA.
Qdoba Mexican Grill
With an emphasis on freshness, this grill offers Mexican style cuisine including burritos, fajitas, tacos, quesadillas, chile con queso, and fresh guacamole. All of the items are made in plain view of the customer. The chain' s current slogan is ' Fast Fresh and Friendly' .
Edy’s Ice Cream Parlour
Part of the Dreyers Grand Ice Cream Holdings Inc. this offers ice cream and frozen yogurt. Now owned by Nestle, Edy’s also sells smoothies and shakes.
