The Imax in Fort Lauderdale
So I promised you that I would cover some sections of this exciting museum in more depth so here goes.
Let us start with the IMAX. This is a separately ticketed event and if you have not been to anything like this before, it will blow your mind!
The screen is 5 storeys high and measures a colossal 60 feet by 80 feet. The sound system has an eye popping 15000 digital watts that wrap you round in sound. There are 12 speakers in use.
The projector has 15000 watt xenon bulbs that transmit crystal clear images.
The stadium style seating is steeply banked to enhance the feeling of being IN the movie and this is further enhanced by the electronic headsets.
So enough about the techie stuff, what about the films?
For those of you holidaying in 2012 this a selection of what you may see:
HIT FIX this film starts in Budapest and the roof top scenes should lend themselves very nicely to this system
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is the last of The Batman trilogy and you are shown 30 minutes of the best stuff.
Mission Impossible 4 is of course a Tom Cruise vehicle and is considered by many to be the best action movie of the year. For us girls, feasting our eyes on Tom Cruise is enough; the film is secondary!
Ghost Protocol is also another perfect vehicle for this format. Look out for the Burj Khalifa sequence.
Born To Be Wild is a 3D documentary about orphaned elephants and orang utans (all together now, say aahh! ) This film is set in Borneo and Kenya.
Sea Rex 3D to a prehistoric world takes you through pre historic times. You will emerge from this thinking you are a dinosaur.
This cinema can be ticketed separately or you can combine it with a ticket to the museum. They give you a great deal on a combined ticket and the museum is so wonderful that I heartily recommend that you do both. If you are short of time, then well leave one of them for next time
I would also check the website before you go to make sure what they are actually showing at the time of your visit.
