The Forgotten Universal Studios.
With all the excitement over the new Harry Potter feature at Universal’s Island of Adventure, it may be easy to forget all the great rides there are at the Universal Studios. I should suspect a great many people head straight for Harry Potter when they arrive in Orlando and then spend the rest of the time at Walt Disney World. This may mean that they are missing out on what Universal Studios has to offer.
The rides at Universal Studios may be old but they are still great fun. The newest ride, The Mummy, is a unique roller coaster ride in that at one point you are going backwards – extremely quickly! And who would not want to see Jaws, an oldie but goodie. I don’t think that ride will ever go out of fashion. The thrill of waiting for your first glimpse of Jaws and wondering when it will happen is still very exciting. Especially the first time.
One of my favourite of the newer offerings, is the Terminator. A dazzling interactive show which combines real life action with a 3D movie, it is quite spectacular.
A family favourite is Shrek 4D. This is a movie with a difference, the 4D part comes when the seats move too. Also for the little ones is ET – the ride. Here you have to help ET get back to his home planet to save it from dying. Climb aboard your bicycle and head for the sky to fly him home. Also for the younger ones is a simulated roller coaster of The Simpsons or maybe the older people would enjoy this too. For all small boys there is Men in Black. A ride which gives you your own ray gun to fire and kill as many aliens as possible before then end of the ride. What small boy doesn’t want to save the world from aliens.
Disaster is a show and ride which gives you an idea of how the disaster movies are made and at the end give you a ride to experience what you have seen.
The shows too are very good. Beetlejuice’s Graveyard revue and the Blues Brothers Show are for lovers of Rock’n Roll, the Horror Movie make-up show for those who like their entertainment gruesome – but very funny, the animal actors on location for obviously animal lovers and for the little ones A day in the park with Barney.
There are so many other things to do and see but those are the main ones, so don’t forget the Studios.
