The Blue Man Group (1)
The Blue Man Group is a live evening performance in a theatre situated between the two Universal Parks near the Hard Rock Café on Citywalk.
We saw the show in August 2007 and, having seen the wonderful Cirque de Soleil on two previous visits, we hoped this would live up to our high expectations by comparison! We needn’t have worried, if anything we enjoyed it more as it we had not seen any excerpts or advertising – simply kept hearing how great it was.
The Blue Man Group works on the assumption that the three performers are blue aliens. They do not speak at all, but their facial expressions and body language – well they say it all - and I found that to be the main reason I enjoyed it so much! Their interaction with each other is so comical and ingenious and also with the audience – several times they choose audience members for participation (no need to worry about this as it was all harmless and enjoyable for those who were picked).
They are truly excellent at everything they do, from juggling, paint effects, drumming and acrobatics. It is a difficult show to describe, comical, extremely clever, amazing – our friends visited the following week on our recommendation and also described it as an incredible show. The last half an hour is a truly crazy experience that will leave you dazed and laughing – I will not spoil your fun by spilling the beans about it! Try to get there 10 mins early as there is a little pre-show entertainment.
General info: The theatre is fairly small so there are no ‘bad’ seats. We sat 3 rows from the back which was fine. The front rows can get wet and were all wearing their rainmacs. Entrance to the Universal parks is not necessary but car parking may be charged. There are some laser effects at the tail end of the performance. There is no intermission. Hot dogs, Starbucks coffee and all the usual candy and sodas are on sale inside the theatre, concession stands are outside. An alcoholic drink is on sale inside - it is a vodka jelly shot for adults only. You could combine with eating at the Hard Rock Café or one of the Citywalk restaurants.
We took our two teenage children who also thoroughly enjoyed it. I would say it is most suited to children aged 9 and upwards.
