The Big River Bar and Grille
The Big River Bar and Grille at the Boardwalk offers both lunch and dinner and it is a particularly good place to go if you are a beer fan as they have a good selection.
The first time we visited we had lunch here after meeting up with some friends that had been playing golf nearby. It was a beautiful afternoon and we were happy to be seated outside. As well as Starters, Soup, Salads and Sandwiches they also serve some larger Main dishes at lunchtime. Whist the women opted for soft drinks the men both enjoyed Steamboat Pale Ales.
As appetizers the four of us shared Jalapeno Spinach Cheese Dip this was spinach and onions blended with melted Jalapeno Jack cheese and served hot with tortilla chips and Artichoke and Crab Dip which came with pita chips. They were both very good.
Continuing the beer theme both men had, for the first time, the Beer Cheese Soup which they thoroughly enjoyed.
My friend and I were hungrier she more so than me as she chose the Rocket Red Ribs. This was a full slab of pork ribs basted with Rocket Red Barbecue sauce and served with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. I enjoyed Shrimp & Scallop Penne Pasta which was sautéed shrimp and scallops in pesto cream sauce.
We had both enjoyed our meal so decided to go back for dinner on our next visit. I am not sure if my husband booked in advance or just phoned ahead but we were fortunate to get seated straight away. We got a table right next to the one of the windows so we could see into the brewery as well as being able to see outside and the service was excellent throughout the evening.
A word of advice, if there is any possibility of rain do not get seating outside as the night we were there this happened and the people dining outside had to leave with their meals half eaten as the restaurant is quite small inside.
Again my friend and I had soft drinks while the men this time had Gadzooks Pilsner which they enjoyed more than the Pale Ale.
This time the men shared an appetizer of Beef Nachos which was tortilla chips, creamy pepper jack cheese, sliced jalapenos, topped with pica de gallo and sour cream whilst I had a Grilled Chicken Cashew Salad and my friend a Blackened Mahi Mahi Caesar which were both good.
The men however were hungry and both had New York Strip & Shrimp Combo this was a grilled 8 oz New York strip with large scampi-style shrimp, served with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. Although they enjoyed it they said the steak was not the best they had ever had.
This was lunch and dinner that we enjoyed in pleasant surroundings.
