Texas De Brazil

We missed this little gem.

We’ve been to Florida six times in the last six years and we still missed it.

Fortunately we now have some friends over there who pointed us in the right direction, and if you’re looking for somewhere for that really special meal for that really special occasion, then this is the place for you.

It’s all thanks to my sister that we found Texas de Brazil. Located at the very top end of International Drive, near Belz, you wouldn’t come across it unless you just happened that way.

Well, my sister Hazel and her then fiancé Simon decided it would be a great idea to get married in Florida. We actually wanted them to get married in Key West as we’ve never been to the Keys but they decided Orlando was the only place for it.

That meant looking for somewhere really special for the wedding meal that wouldn’t bat an eye at a guy in a kilt and sporran.

We didn’t think Taco Bell was quite the right atmosphere so we got straight on to a couple of friends in Kissimmee, who recommended Texas de Brazil in an instant.

Of course you never really know what other people’s tastes are and we were quite worried it would be too frantic, poor food or service, but it’s not like you can just hop over there for a trial run can you. So trust their judgment we had to.

Well it was perfect. From the moment we stepped out of the limo we could see that this was a classy place. The restaurant itself was really attractive with just the right atmosphere for our special occasion. There was plenty of room and we had a large table out of the way of everyone else. The feeling was relaxed and unhurried. This was a place to dine, not to eat.

To start with we had a salad buffet with something like 120 different items. But the advice is don’t go too crazy here because it’s what happens next that makes this place so unusual.

We were all given a little circle of card. It was red on one side and green on the other.

This card is your ticket to heaven. You turn it to green side up, and a constant procession of waiters appear one after the other. Each one has a selection of roasts done in all different ways, and you can choose to have some carved for you right there at your table, or you can pass on to the next guy. Well I’ve never eaten such a choice of mouth-watering food in my life. The quality of the food was unsurpassed.

If you need to take it slow, you just turn your card over to red side up, and they leave you in peace. Breather over, you flip your card, and back they all come.

We were treated like royalty. The food was great. The wine too. The service impeccable.

It was a very special end to Hazel’s wedding day.

Texas de Brazil is a must if you are in Orlando. We’ll be going back.
