Test Track at Epcot
This is one of the more recent additions to Disney well when I say recent I mean in the last 5 years! Anyway this has to be one of everyone’s favourite rides and judging by the queue it certainly is.
Be aware though that if it rains sufficiently the ride can close as the rain can affect the traction of the vehicle on the outside area of the track, so if you want to go on this ride its best to avoid the days when it looks like rain or you may be disappointed once in the queue
The queue winds its way through a serious workshop with lots of tools and lots of automotive testing equipment in action and if you a hobbyist mechanic you wont be able to stop drooling over all the Snap On tools
The queuing is cleverly done and as with all Disney attractions there is plenty to keep you and the kids occupied, as you get closer to the ride you enter a small lift area where you are told via a television screen that you are about to take place in some tests on a new vehicle, you are in effect the replacement crash test dummies
You enter the vehicle and once comfortable make sure you attach your seat belt as you are definitely going to need it, the vehicle then moves off and it is subjected to a heat test where you drive through and area of heat lamps, this is quickly followed by a subzero area.
Next its onto the braking and manoeuvrability tests where the benefits of ABS are displayed, a run with the ABS turned off demonstrates how difficult it is to steer a vehicle around a corner at speed under severe braking a further run with the ABS turned on shows you that the vehicle can easily manoeuvre corner at speed under braking, through these displays the vehicles moves and turns at speed its great fun the kids love it
Soon you are about to take the speed run which can be seen from outside the ride in the park its an raised outdoor long straight where the vehicles can get up to 60mph, its not scary at all just great fun, the vehicle sets off down a shallow ramp and then runs along a gentle curve that is banked to increase the speed.
As the speed builds you can feel the G Forces pushing you down into your seat this may sound a little frightening but it’s not at all, it’s quite exciting there is a speed camera that records you vehicles speed at this fastest point which adds to the fun
Soon this ride is over, this really is a great ride and very right popular, don’t miss this one.
