Stonewood Grill and Tavern
If you have a special event to celebrate when you are in Florida there are many good restaurants to choose from, in fact you may have tried many of them but I would like to introduce to another one that you may not have heard of. We were taken there by some very kind friends who said one day, did we like clam chowder and when they heard the answer was yes, said we must take you to this place that does the best clam chowder that they had ever tasted.
You are probably wondering where this place is and what it is called, well it The Stonewood Grill and Tavern and it is situated at the corner of Dr. Phillips and Conroy-Windermere Road. Once there you never see which celebrity you might see on the next table. We are reliably told that it is frequented by Tiger Woods and family.
We were shown to our table very promptly and the drinks order was taken while we ploughed our way through the menu and made our respective chooses. We obviously had to have the clam chowder and there was a choice of a cup or bowl. Knowing the American portions we decided to go for a cup, hopefully leaving room for the entree. One our party chose the Bruschetta which when it came had a balsamic vinaigrette dressing which was like no other dressing any of us had ever had before. We all had to have a taste, much to the person’s disgust who has chosen it as it wanted it all for himself. Our clam chowder was equally delicious and if you like clam chowder you must have it.
The choices for entrees was not vast but enough to make it difficult to choose. There were some lovely fish dishes to choose from so again if you like seafood, this is the place to go.
Our entrees chosen were pork, salmon, steak and chicken. Needless to say the portions were the normal size in American restaurants and I for one struggled and failed to finish mine and that was only one pork chop. My husband also failed to finish his Chicken Hot Pot which have to say was one of the biggest Chicken Hot Pots I have ever seen.
We looked at each other and thought ‘dare we ask for a box’. We needed to worry, we didn’t even have to ask as it was offered very readily by our very attentive waitress and we of course took her up on her offer.
All-in-all it was a very enjoyable meal, and one we would most certainly want to repeat for that special meal.
