Splash Mountain
You will find Splash Mountain in Frontierland's west side, between Pecos Bill's cafe and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We sometimes use Pecos Bills as a meeting place with the rest of our party or a convenient place just to grab a burger or a sandwich.
As you approach Frontierland, you will begin to hear screams, look up and you will see the water drop of Splash Mountain in the distance.
This is a great Disney attraction with a good theme, audio-animatronics, laughs, thrills and a happy ending! It is based on Walt Disney's classic "Song of the South. " Crafty Brer Rabbit is pursued by Brer Fox accompanied by Brer Bear through swamps and woods all the way to the Laughin' Place!
Several times throughout the day characters are in the Splash Mountain Courtyard for photos and autographs, check your daily Times Guide for information on when they are likely to appear. We have always seen Brer Fox and Brer Bear, but only once have seen Brer Rabbit.
I would really recommend that you get a Fastpass for this ride. This is one of the most popular rides in the Magic Kingdom and queues for it form as soon as the park opens.
Children under 40 inches may not go on the ride. You will definitely get wet on this ride! Our girls always take rain ponchos and try to sit in the middle of the log. If you want to get really wet just ask to sit up front!
The long queue takes you through the insides of Chickapin Hill until you reach the loading zone. An eight-passenger log hollowed out by the beavers, will carry you on your journey along the half a mile long flume course.
Just as your log begins to tip down the waterfall cameras go off capturing your expression! You can view these photos as you exit the ride. If you do decide to buy them you can collect them at the Main entrance at the end of your visit.
My Mother usually waits on the bridge where you get a great view and she takes her own photos. If you do this be prepared because you can also get very wet here!
Although Mr. Bluebird has advised Brer Rabbit not to leave his briar patch home he does. Of course Brer Fox and Brer Bear see this as a not to be missed opportunity to pursue Brer Rabbit. There is a great chase it and includes three lifts and five drops. For the grand finale, you plunge with Brer Rabbit from the top of Chickapin Hill, down five stories into the briar at a descent speed of 40mph!
Look out for a Hidden Mickey in the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" scene, he is lying on his back in the pink clouds to the right of the riverboat.
When we leave the ride the girls go straight to Brer Rabbit's house where they can play and relax after the thrills of Splash Mountain.
