The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Universal Studios
The Amazing Adventure of Spiderman can be found in Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. This 3-D ride is actually the first attraction in the history of theme parks to combine moving vehicles with specially filmed 3-D action.
You will find yourself touring the Daily Bugle, the newspaper where Peter Parker works. Peter, who works as a photographer for the paper, is, of course, Spiderman. The bad guys have stolen the Statue of Liberty and you together with Spiderman must help to locate and recover it. Doctor Octopus has invented a levitation cannon and kidnapped the statue with this new contraption. He has formed the “Sinister Society” with other evil villains who are demanding a huge ransom or else they will use it to levitate anything and everything.
Grab your 3-D glasses and you’re on your way travelling through the streets of New York in your special twelve passenger vehicle “scoop”. You travel from scene to scene in these vehicles, which move in synch with the action happening all around you. Spinning round and around, up and down, back and forth until Spiderman appears with a thud on the edge of your scoop. I nearly jumped out of my skin when this happened. Then just as quickly he’s gone and you find yourself in a warehouse where the Sinister Society are hiding. Oh no, you’ve been discovered, what will happen to you? How will you escape the evil clutches of these super villains? Of course you will only find out the answers to these question by riding The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman yourself, I’m not going to give all the best bits away now, am I?
The special effects in this ride are amazing and the attention to detail is fascinating. For instance when a filmed 3-D object appears, a shadow is shown on the real wall. This reinforces the illusion and makes everything appear real within the ride. The battle takes place all around you and this in part is due to the fast moving simulators, huge 3-D graphics and the pyrotechnic special effects. Beware of spewing water pipes and exploding pumpkin bombs! At one point you are lifted four hundred feet up into the air and then dropped back to ground. Well in actual fact you never leave the ground but it certainly feels as though you have.
This ride makes you feel as though you are right there in the middle of all the action. I am certain that once you have experienced it you will be back for more!
