SKYWAY PIER
Skyway Pier State Park is located to the south and north of the bridge. This is on the I. 275. in St Petersburg.
This is obviously entirely one for the anglers among you and the opportunities and location are second to none. They proudly boast to any one who will listen that the pier is the longest fishing pier not just in Florida but in the whole world. Who could miss out on that!
This is the old bridge that was built to connect Sarasota to St Petersburg; however since the Sunshine Sky way has been installed it has enabled the old bridge to be used by fisher men.
One of the best aspects of this angling experience is that you can drive right up to your chosen place (the exceptions are recreation vehicles and large trucks which are now forbidden due to their adverse effect on this old structure and indeed the east section is closed as I write while they address some safety concerns)
The fish here are many and varied. your catch could include tarpon, grouper, mackerel of different kinds, cobia and pompano.
You will need a licence and it would be a good idea to go on this website www. floridafisheries. com and click on the licence section. Otherwise you can visit a sports goods shop or Walmart on your way.
The entrance fee covers you for 24 hours and is a modest $3 per car or $2 per adult. children and old age pensioners are charged a dollar and 50 cents and you become an adult for this purpose at 12 years of age.
The bridge is lit at night for all night fishing and indeed the light attracts the fish, so if you are a night owl, here is a prfect opportunity.
Go on to Park site for a chart that lists enterococcus, enterococcus geometric mean and coliform if this is of concern to you.
Nearby parks for non anglers are listed below; perhaps those that do not want to fish could drop the anglers off and go somewhere more interesting (to them) There is a shop for supplies of food, drink, bait and tackle
