Sky Diving
Looking for something different to do during your stay in Orlando? Our daughter recently bought a skydive jump for her boyfriend!
It was a nice easy drive out to Chalet Suzanne at Lake Wales. The signing could have been better from the main road but once there it really is a beautiful spot.
The airstrip was not at all what we had expected, just a grass runway and the plane look as if it had seen better days. However the instructors were very professional.
Chalet Suzanne itself is a restaurant and country inn. The buildings surrounding it are very picturesque. We had to use the restrooms while there and were amazed at the antique wash basins and furniture.
Fifteen minutes before your jump the instuctor will help you in to your gear and give you the safety instructions.
The skydive was a tandem jump from 13500 feet with a forty second free fall. Those of us on the ground had a wonderful view and could stand right beside the plane as it took off. The plane holds two instructors and their passengers. We watch the plane gathering height in the clear blue sky. The first we could see of the jump was once we had heard the parachutes opening. We were told the colour of the parachute so that we knew which pair to concentrate on. It then took around six minutes for them to return to earth so we were able to take lots of photos and video. You could of course purchase a photo and video package but we were happy to take our own. We did though purchase a tee shirt as we thought that would make a lovely souvenir.
You will need to wear soft soled tennis shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather, drink plenty of water and eat normally. You will also need to plan to be there 15 minutes prior to your reservation time.
I had a chat with the pilot after the jump. He said that he had flown planes all over Europe including the UK as a commercial pilot. They had not been able to fly a few days before we were there as President Obama was at Disney World and there was a five mile no fly zone in the area.
You may like to combine your trip with a visit to The Bok Tower or Legoland which are also in the area.
