Shopping in Florida, or how to make your trip pay for itself, almost! (Part 3)
Our daughter loves Mac make up so this is something else we look out for on trips to the Florida Mall or The Mall at Millennia again it is around half the price you would pay in UK stores. However we always buy any YSL or Estee Lauder items on her wish list from the duty free shop in Manchester airport as these are often more expensive in Orlando. Where we buy perfume depends on the brand but we have had some excellent bargains from the Ralph Lauren store again at the Premium Outlet Mall on “Romance” and “Ralph”.
It’s not only personal items that we buy but also things for our UK home including bedding, towels, pillows etc. All these items are excellent quality as well as excellent value for money in Florida especially if you shop at places such as Wal Mart, Kohl’s, Target etc. We have bought beautiful bedding sets including comforter, sheets, valance sheet, pillow shams and pillow cases from Wal Mart at around $70 for the lot. These items can be quite heavy so when you are buying them you do have to bear in mind your luggage allowances especially if you are flying with any of the charter airlines as their allowances can be quite low. Fortunately we usually fly with Virgin and have never managed to come near the 46kg per person economy limit although our daughter and daughter in law never seem to have a problem.
Some smaller everyday items we have also got used to buying in Florida and bringing home are things such as tumble dryer fabric conditioner sheets and zip lock bags which take up very little room in your case but are cheaper than in the UK and easy enough to pick up on our many trips around the supermarkets. We also have a growing list of food items that we bring back each time including Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, Sam’s Honey Mustard salad dressing, Stovetop stuffing mix, Kellogg’s Special K (apparently it tastes different than the UK one according to our daughter), A1 steak sauce and the lovely spicy tomato and horseradish seafood cocktail sauce. We also have to bring back various sweets and snacks to keep work colleagues happy, Jolly Ranchers, Hershey’s cookies and cream nuggets and Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies are top of their wish lists at the moment although I’m sure this will change as we discover new delights for them to try.
Although the prices in Florida are very low please bear in mind your duty free allowances. That bargain you couldn’t resist won’t be such a bargain if you exceed your limit and end up paying duty or worse still haveing it confiscated.
