Shopping Heaven
The Mall at Millenia is my idea of shopping heaven. It is two floors of the most beautiful shops you have ever seen outside of Paris or Bond Street. Shops that have names that you only usually read about in glossy magazines; Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Tiffany’s, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo to name but a few.
The whole mall is shaped and built around three very famous stores at its perimeter, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales. (I once nearly bought a small handbag at Neiman Marcus that I thought was $150, on closer inspection is was actually $15, 000 it was no bigger than a purse). Not to get too personal, but do take a visit to the Ladies Room in Neiman Marcus – it’s another world!
At some seasons of the year they have a harpist or pianist at a grand piano, dressed in full evening wear and playing to sooth the shoppers, but at Christmas time the place comes alive with the anticipation of Santa Claus’ arrival every day. The decorations are amazing and Santa’s Grotto is huge. The look on the children’s faces is wonderful.
Two of my favourite chocolate shops, Godiva Chocolates and Lindt offer samples but to buy them – wow, especially Godiva’s.
There is a wonderful home and cook shop called Crate & Barrel, this is a wonderful place to browse for all those essentials you did not know you needed, but now realise you must have. Another kitchen shop has the best quality kitchen ware ever made (with prices to match – but still cheaper than in the UK) this is called Williams-Sonoma. The Pottery Barn is full of very unusual home wares with some lovely Christmas decorations for sale and they have a special Pottery Barn for children as well.
The jewellery shops are absolutely mind boggling. The size of the diamonds and the quality are out of this world but for comparable quality in the UK you will pay a lot, lot more.
There are more opticians and sunglasses shops than I have ever seen in one place and if you bring your prescription with you, they will make up your spectacles in a matter of hours at much cheaper prices than the UK.
So with all this plus the leather goods shops, childrens shops, health and beauty salons and shops not to mention the sports, music, electronic, gift and gadget shops, you are in for a real treat.
If you like shopping, that is. If you don’t – well there’s always the 32 golf courses!
