SHOPPING AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Who would have thought that an airport was the place to shop? For most of us it is somewhere we pass through, on our way to exotic places, but Orlando International Airport has some wonderful shops, and if you have to spend a few hours waiting for your flight you can be sure that you won’t be bored. In fact, the shops are so good that even those who are not flying pop in to do a bit of retail therapy
In line with many airports, Orlando International Airport is looking for new ways to increase revenue, and to decrease their dependency on the airline industry, which has been through difficult times since 9/11. One of their solutions has been to attract high-end shops to boost their finances.
There are now over 24 shops, in 4 areas, the North Walk, the South Walk, the West Hall and the East Hall.
Children will love to explore the Sea World Stores, the Magic of Disney, Walt Disney’s Earport, the two Universal Studio Stores, or the Kennedy Space Centre stores, where they will find numerous items to spend their last few dollars on. There are many gift shops, from Brookstones, who sell innovative gifts, (and the special padlocks which are the only ones recommended for suitcases, and approved by the Transport Safety Administration) to Best of America, who sell patriotic goods, and Airport Wireless who sell High-Tech Accessories. Don’t forget to take a look inside Florida Market, which sells all sorts of souvenir items. But if its leather goods you are in need of you will find Land of Leather in the South Walk, and Duty Free can be purchased in the West Hall.
For the ladies, there is jewellery at Erwin Pearl, Gem Collection, Mel Fisher’s Treasures, or Bijoux Terner, who have a delicious range of inexpensive jewellery and pashminas. Watches, too, are available at the ever popular Swatch store. What a great way to remember a dream vacation with a piece of jewellery or a new watch. Maybe its sunglasses you want, ready for your next vacation, and these can be found at Sunglass International.
Then there are shops which sell clothes and accessories, like Oakley and Women’s Rock, whilst Lids sells hats and caps. For the ladies, too, there are cosmetics, skin care and hair care items at L’Occitane, and perfume at Perfumania, where else?
But don’t leave without experience all that Lush has to offer. This innovative Vancouver based company sells fresh, hand made cosmetics. You can’t miss it, just walk down the North Walk and you will soon be aware of a delicious fragrance wafting down the concourse. It’s a mixture of herbs, flowers and berries, and it will entice you in to take a look. Maybe the Sonic Death Monkey shower gel with real cocoa will take your fancy, or one of the other fabulous items on display. Whatever you choose, you can be sure that it is of the highest quality.
But it doesn’t stop there. You can buy beach wear at Ron Jon Surf Shop – okay your vacation may be over, but there is always a next time, isn’t there? Books can be found at Borders or W. H. Smith Books. Co. and Music at Altitunes, whilst those who are fascinated by motor bikes will find the Harley Davidson shops, selling Harley items, in both the West Hall and the North Walk.
Even if all you need is a newspaper or a last minute gift, Hudson News and Key Gift Shop offer a good range of items. You can even buy some chocolate to eat on the ‘plane at Schakolad, in the South Walk. If you need some more currency, there are currency exchanges in both the West and East Halls, or there is the SunTrust Bank in the North Walk.
Finally, if you have some spare time the d-parture spa is situated in the North Walk, and you can pamper yourself with a last minute manicure or massage, a facial or a hair cut or make up. Their staff are trained to keep an eye on the clock so you won’t miss your flight, and it is the ultimate way to relax you before you step on the ‘plane, and wave goodbye to wonderful Orlando.
