One for the Boys - Shave and Haircut - Highly Recommended
On entering premises you are immediately relaxed by the cool air conditioning, a welcome drop in temperature from the 85 degrees outside. The waiting area has a wooden floor , large rug, oval wooden table with magazines. There is a complementary drinks area offering coffee and if you ask you can obtain a cold drink. There are several display cabinets housing various products for sale i. e. shaving brushes, oil, soaps etc. In the background there is soft relaxing music playing. There are several high backed burgendy leather chairs in which to relax.
I had sat down for only a few second when I was informed by one of the staff " I’ ll be right with you" . I had only been thumbing through a magazine for about a minute when I was called over to one of the barbers chairs.
The staff are very friendly and attentative. All are dressed in black trousers white shirts with burgendy waistcoats. I was escorted to one of the chairs. In front of the barber chairs are ornate mirrors on wooden clad walls. There is a work station housing various instruments for hair cutting, shaving, including a cuth throat razor. As I was having a shave first, a black cape was wrapped around me to protect my clothing. The chair was then put in a relaxed horizontal position and although I was about to have a shave, this is where the relaxation began. First of all, a warm towel was placed around my neck and chin and then up and around my jaw finally resting on my eyes. This was then gently pressed to intensify the warmth and to encourage my pores to relax. Oil was then applied to soften the skin. Soap was applied next with a shaving brush made from badger hair which was very soft. The shave with the cut throath was carried out with meticulous precision. Hot towels were once again used to open the pores and whilst all this was going on I was relaxing further, knowning I was in good hands. A second application of soap followed. This time a normal razor was used to fine tune the shave. My face was gently surveyed by the barbers fingers for any areas which may have been overlooked. Another hot towel was applied. (Sooooo relaxinggggg).
The haircut came next. A tissue was placed around my neck to avoid any loose hairs getting into unwanted places. Mine was a straight forward haircut. By that I mean number one on the cutters all over. Again this was carried out methodically and attention was taken to eliminate any strays. A gentleman’ s grooming then took place i. e. eyebrows, ears and nose. This was followed by a quick hair shampoo to release all the small particles of hair that come with having your hair cut. I loved this attention to detail as many times I have left a barbers and rubbed my hands over my head and shaken my shirt to rid myself of the errant hairs. Whilst my hair was being washed I was also given a mini head massage. Afrter all this, how can you fail to be relaxed for the ensuing day’ s golf!
