Seuss Landing at Islands of Adventure
Keeping very young children entertained and occupied can be a trial at the best of times and if you start to run out of ideas head for the Islands of Adventure at Universal. Inside you will find Seuss Landing, over ten acres designed almost entirely for the youngest members of the family, although the incredibly colourful and cutesy architecture will enthrall all ages.
There are four gentle rides, the first being the Caro-seuss-El with its' array of unusual and colorful creatures circling round Horton the Elephant. Instead of horses, you can ride Dog-o-lope, elephant birds, cowfish and an array of other colourful creatures from Dr Seuss Storybook. All the wonderful characters on the ride, seven different ones in total, come complete with goofy faces and serene smiles. Billed as the world' s first interactive carousel, riders can pull the rains of their chosen creature and it' s head will tilt, the tail will wag and the eyes will blink. There is also an adaptation for wheelchairs so riders can take the ride on their own gently rocking chariots. Children under four feet in height need to be accompanied by an adult.
A similar restriction applies to One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, a flying ride that swoops up and down at your fingertips but remember to be careful if you don' t want to get wet. Each rider is given instructions such as ' Red fish fly high' and if you opt to disobey, you may get wet when one of the bad fish spits at you! Each fish has it' s own joystick, so you can control the height if any of your younger members are scared of flying too high.
The next but last ride is the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train, a fun family ride above and around Seuss Landing and even travelling around the inside of Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous allowing you to wave to the families dining below. The ride is set on two tracks that change over during the ride and it gives you a great view overlooking Seuss Landing.
Finally, The Cat in the Hat ride introduces you to the cat and his friends Thing 1 and Thing 2 getting up to mischief as you spin and swerve around. There' s a lot happening in a short time on this ride, so if you have time, do take the ride again as you will notice the things you missed first time around.
If I Ran the Zoo is an interactive play area.
For munchies, you can try the burgers and chicken sandwiches with fries at the Green Eggs and Ham Cafe. (They actually do have green scrambled eggs). Moose Juice Goose Juice serves snacks along with its' Moose Juice made from green sour apples served fresh or frozen or Goose Juice which is a concoction of oranges and tangerines. Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous is a kid-friendly big top serving chicken, personal pizzas, alphabet soup, macaroni and cheese, pasta dishes, chicken fingers and salads all in the midst of circus performers. A great atmosphere for the kids.
There are character greetings here too, so keep your eyes open for the likes of Cat in the Hat or The Grinch.
